Program Management
Enterprise health IT system implementations need the
right leadership and controls to predictably deliver
success. In order to assure this success, an effective
strategy with appropriate planning, management,
communication channels, technical controls, fiscal
controls and staffing need to be in place. Many large
systems implementations like Hospital Information
Systems, Enterprise EHR systems or even smaller elements
like CPOE implementations are actually complex
multi-faceted projects that need to be managed
collectively as an overall “Program” to be a success.
All of the activities of a large project take on a new
dimension under a large scale multi-project “Program”.
Enterprise programs often have multiple inter-related
projects of which many are not even IT driven. Each
project has the ability to affect one or more other
projects as defined in the program. These effects can be
as simple as scheduling conflict of resources to
something much greater such as lack of function or
interoperability of the completed system. Fiscal,
technical, clinical and operational issues are all
possible if the entire program is not effectively
managed. Active communication will help, but a formal
management program is really required. If the program is
not managed effectively, the goals are rarely met.
Ideal Health IT has extensive experience managing
every aspect of projects and multi-project programs.
Effective program management cuts across every
consulting service we have and as such is a defined
practice area for us. We have a defined methodology that
has been proven successful in multiple enterprise health
IT system implementation projects. These programs which
have included large clinical EHR implementations have
relied heavily on our effective program management.
